MARTA CONTINUING DISTRIBUTION OF STEERING WHEEL LOCKS FOR KIA, HYUNDAI VEHICLE OWNERS TO PREVENT VEHICLE THEFT AT RAIL STATIONS
Social Media “Challenge”
Leads to Spike in Vehicle Incidents
ATLANTA – The MARTA Police Department (MPD) is continuing the distribution of steering wheel locks to MARTA patrons who own Kia and Hyundai vehicles. Through a partnership with car manufacturers Kia and Hyundai, MARTA received 640 steering wheel locks to help deter and prevent thefts after a
spike in incidents involving those vehicles. Police nationwide have noticed a spike in thefts of Kia and Hyundai vehicles after a post on social media showed how to start these cars without a key.
MPD officers will distribute the steering wheel locks to MARTA patrons who own a Kia or Hyundai model year 2011 - 2022, this Thursday, June 1 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Lindbergh Station, located at 2424 Piedmont Rd., in the Kiss/Ride area by the AT&T parking deck on Lindbergh Lane. Please bring
proof of vehicle ownership and a valid Breeze Card.
The North Precinct will also be hosting their event, Soda Pop with a Cop, at the same time and location to provide an opportunity for officers and community members to fellowship with one another.
Kia and Hyundai car owners who regularly park at any MARTA rail station can also expect a flyer on their windshield in the coming days with information on how to claim a wheel lock.
